A 30-day planWith a decision point
Mike Wood, career development practitioner at Limitless Careers

The goal isn't to choose a career today. It's to gather enough information to make a confident decision.

What you leave with

Three things, in writing

Most career conversations end with encouragement. This one ends with a document you can act on.

Clarity about what you want

Your career drivers, ranked — income, flexibility, security, autonomy, the work itself. Including the places where two of them are pulling against each other.

Two or three realistic directions

Each one tested against qualifications, experience, the actual job market, salary and the life you want. Ruling something out counts as progress.

A plan for the next 30 days

Three actions for this week, two or three for the month, and a date to decide whether to keep going down that path.

How the hour works

The session has a structure

You'll complete a ten-minute questionnaire after booking, so we don't spend the session on background. Then we work through seven blocks.

0–5

What would make this hour useful

We agree the goal for the session and write it down, so the conversation has something to steer back to.

"If we finish today and you think 'that was worthwhile' — what would we have achieved?"
5–15

Where you are now

What's working, what isn't, how long you've felt this way, and what you've already tried.

"If nothing changed over the next two years, how would you feel about that?"
15–25

Your career drivers

Interests, strengths, values, the environment that suits you, and what the job has to provide practically. We rank them so the priorities are explicit rather than assumed.

25–35

Your transferable skills

We translate your experience into skills that move between industries — and then separate the ones you're good at from the ones you actually want to keep using.

35–45

Career directions

Three options on the table, each with why it fits, what concerns you about it, and what needs researching. Then two questions: which is most interesting, and which is most realistic.

45–53

Reality testing

Qualifications, employer expectations, whether the jobs actually exist, salary, lifestyle fit and barriers to entry. This is the part a free online career quiz can't do.

53–60

Your action plan

Three things to do this week, the 30-day work, and a decision point. You'll finish the call knowing your first step without waiting for the written summary.

Before you book

Is this the right service for you?

Book it if

  • You've outgrown your role but don't know what comes next
  • You're weighing up two directions and can't separate them
  • You're returning to work after a break
  • You're considering study and want to know if it's warranted
  • You've been made redundant and need a direction, quickly
  • You want honest reality testing rather than encouragement

Not this, if

  • You want your resume written — that's a different service
  • You want someone to tell you which job to take
  • You're looking for personal counselling or mental-health support
  • You want a personality test to produce the answer
  • You're not willing to do any research between sessions

Who you'll be talking to

Mike Wood

I've spent more than fifteen years in education and training — secondary teaching, international schools, vocational education, instructional design and running my own businesses across Australia and Southeast Asia. My own career hasn't been a straight line, which is part of why I do this work.

I'm not going to tell you to follow your passion. I'll ask better questions than that, take your constraints seriously, and be honest with you about what a direction actually requires before you commit time and money to it.

Sessions are online, so I work with people anywhere in Australia — and with Australians working overseas who are thinking about coming home.

Questions

Before you book

What happens after I book?

You'll get a ten-question questionnaire straight away. It takes about ten minutes and I need it back at least 24 hours before we speak, so I can read it properly and come to the session prepared rather than spending the first fifteen minutes on background.

Will you tell me what career to do?

No. I'll help you narrow the field to two or three directions that genuinely fit your skills, values and constraints, and I'll test each one against reality so you can see what it would actually take. The decision stays yours — that's the point.

Do you use personality or career tests?

Not as the answer. We rank your career drivers together during the session, which is a structured way of getting your priorities out of your head and onto paper. It isn't a psychometric instrument and I won't present it as one.

Is this counselling?

No. This is career-development guidance. If something comes up in the session that needs psychological support, I'll say so and point you toward the right kind of practitioner rather than working outside what I'm qualified to do.

What if one session isn't enough?

Then we talk about it at the end, without pressure. Plenty of people take the summary, do the 30 days of research and never need me again. That's a good outcome.

Do you work with employers?

Yes — career development workshops, outplacement support and transition programs for organisations. Get in touch and tell me what you're trying to achieve.

Book a session

One hour. Two or three directions. A plan.

Sessions run online and are paid at the time of booking. If the time you want isn't available, email me and we'll find one.
